What is a Personal Umbrella or Umbrella Insurance?
A personal umbrella/umbrella insurance is meant to protect you from large liability claims that go over and beyond your base insurance coverage. When your underlying auto or home insurance does not have enough coverage to handle a judgement, a umbrella policy would step in to help.
Most umbrella policies will require the insured to have a qualified auto policy with limits of at least $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident. Once this criteria is met, the insured will have the ability to purchase a $1,000,000 umbrella policy to sit on top of the auto liability and home liability.
Umbrella policies are not limited to $1M in coverage, depending on the customer's financial needs, you can purchase umbrella coverage up to any amount needed.
Who Needs an Umbrella Policy?
The quick answer is... an umbrella policy can benefit almost anyone! In today's litigious world, it is never a bad thing to carry excess liability coverage.
